Currently accepting new clients.
Hi there, I’m Cara-Joy (she/her). I'm a Registered Provisional Psychologist (AB P8570), a Certified Body Trust® Provider and hold an MA in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am a fat, white, cisgender woman of settler heritage who lives and works on Treaty 6 land. I acknowledge the many privileges that I hold and benefit from, including those that are a result of ancestral colonial violence. My practice is body and sex positive, and poly/queer/trans friendly.

One-size-fits-all isn’t true for clothing, life, or therapy! My own journey has been very off the beaten track. I love working with others to break free of societal expectations and internalized messaging to find their authentic self. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including parts work (informed by internal family systems), narrative and existential therapies. I use humour in therapy, as I believe it is a wonderfully regulating tool. In all of these, I work from a feminist, trauma-informed and anti-racist, anti-oppressive lens. My approach is strengths-based, collaborative, and compassion-focused. You are the expert on your life, your experiences, and your situation; my role is to act as witness and guide as you connect to your own innate wisdom, power, and capacity for healing. I believe healing occurs in relationship with others, and that it is in the sharing of our stories and being witnessed with compassion in difficult moments that enables us to move towards a more authentic, meaningful, and joyful life.

My passions and interests in therapy include:
  • Body image / liberation / anti-diet culture work, particularly for those living in larger bodies
  • Neurodiversity
  • Religious Trauma
  • Interpersonal Difficulties
  • Grief and Loss
  • Life Changes
  • Depression
  • Identity and Self-Discovery
  • Childhood Trauma

Part of our innate wisdom is (re)connecting with and learning to trust our bodies. In a culture obsessed with controlling size and health, ability, appearance, gender expression, and (literally and metaphorically) fitting in, this is a revolutionary idea. As a Certified Body Trust® Provider, I can work with you in exploring issues around body image, identity, divesting from the damaging messaging of diet culture and the dominant weight paradigm, and wholly embracing yourself as you are. Despite what you have been taught, your body is not the enemy – it is your home. It is you. And you deserve to live wholly, authentically, and freely.

What is Body Trust®?
Body Trust is a radical revisioning of what it means to occupy and care for your body. It is a pathway to acceptance of the body, an alternative dialogue to the conventional paradigm of food, body image, and weight concerns in our culture. Body Trust is paradigm shifting work that invites bravery and fierce body compassion (Center for Body Trust, 2023).
